Ladies What would you say to your husband if he said he wanted to resign from his high paying job and ...

... become a nurse or a flight attendant?

If he had his reasons...and he felt as though he had given his all at the other job, why not?

Id' be appalled and also incredulous. I could not by any stretch of the imagination see my husband in either of those jobs. And if he was a flight attendant he'd be away all the time, which would really piss me off. Plus I have no idea how we would pay the mortgage, bills etc on a flight attendant or nurse's salary. And they're both girly jobs anyway.

All in all, it would be quite a blow to me. However, I don't see how I could stop him doing it if he really wanted to. I can't imagine why he would want to though.

EDIT: Priscilla, would he have to wear a pink uniform, or follow your lead and be a man pretending to be a woman in order to troll a women's study board? Just wondering, it won't make any difference to my answer!

Of course, if he wanted to, he has to decide what work he does.

But as a member of a partnership, I would expect my partner would factor existing financial obligations and family responsibilities into such a decision.

And, as a member of a partnership, part of that responsibility is to discuss important life decisions together, noy ambush each other with surprise whims.

Everyone has obligations they must fulfil, very few of us can just 'give up' a good salary to follow a dream, with no consequences.

Cheers :-)

His "high paying job" is currently playing music, and being a chef. While he make *okay* money, if he decided to become a nurse I'd be ecstatic.

Especially since we would be able to work together once I complete my MD and open a private practice. (I'd be a good boss. smilies/wink.gif)

my partner doesn't have a hugely high paying job and he is free to do whatever he wants career wise. nursing can be a very rewarding career. both would obviously involve lots of shift work but i'm sure we could deal with that

Where have you been? Nursing is now a high paying job! It has one of the highest entry level salaries for college grads.

BTW which troll are you so we understand how insulting the questions are going to get.

If he wanted to become a nurse and worked less hours, I'd be happy. If he wanted to become a flight attendant, I'd be sad about seeing him less.

At least around here, he'd earn more money as a nurse than he is currently earning.

Why not?

Flight attendant? No ... I'd never see him.

These jobs are more appropriate for women.
