Overweight Pregnancy

Well I am overweight and my fiance and I haven't been ttc however, we don't use any form of protection and just go by if it happens it happens. I was concerned though because we have been having unprotected sex for 2 years now (we live together) and nothing has happened. I went to my doctor and of course asked him because I rather be treated early on he is an infertility specialist aswell and told me that my ovaries were fine and he felt everything fine. I get regular periods (maybe a couple of days late if Im stressed out) But I ovulate just fine (I have ovulation symptoms) and I don't believe my weight is an issue I lost 30 lbs and still nothing (my mom is very fertile and was overweight during all 5 of her pregnancies) I am starting to believe maybe my fiance has the problem?

What do you ladies think? He has offered to go see a doctor and get tested. However how common is males having infertitility issues?

There are so many factors that affect fertility, this is my advice...

Firstly go out and buy a maybe baby (www.maybebaby.com.au) and several ovulation tests

at the time of ovulation, use the tests!

If you're still not pregnant after 12 cycles, then start to consider medically assisted conception!

Also maybe ask yourselves if you're both really ready for this, if you can't afford to pay for college without welfare maybe you should wait until after he graduates. babies are EXPENSIVE. we are not married but have 1 and are trying for our second, we are both high income earners so managing expenses is quite easy, if you're on a combined income of less than $65,000 p/a then I think you may struggle to cope.

I was also overweight after having my daughter, now is the best time for you to lose the weight because you will gain weight during pregnancy and breastfeeding and you will need to be fit to run around after a toddler, I personally feel a little sad when i take my girl to the park for a run and i see another mummy who doesn't want to play with her child because she is overweight and doesn't have the energy to keep up with them.

I do wish you all the best though and i'm sending you lot's of BABYDUST...

It is quite possible that he could be infertile, especially if he plays a lot of contact sport like football and so on where he may have gotten an injury.

A visit to the urologist will find out though.

Honey,

Go to Weight Watcher. Lossing 10% of your body weight will double your chances.

And get him tested too.

And I think men cause infertitility is about 40%.

Its never just one persons issue.... dont stress about it... let it happen naturally... if he wants to go get tested then let him do it.

What have you tried to get pregnant? My advice is to use the fertility awareness method. I was told I couldn't have children but I used this method and conceived both my kids this way. I used it again just recently and believe I'm pregnant once more (hoping). Anyway, get yourself a copy of Toni Weschler's book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. This book will open your eyes and help you to get to know your own cycle in a way that doctors can't. Please try this because it works and you will feel so liberated and in control of your own body. By the way, I was overweight with both my pregnancies. Not ideal I know but a reality nevertheless. Good luck. Baby dust.

I think he should be tested. It's very simple to check fertility issues in a man.

It is also very common for men to have fertility issues. For a personal example, one of my friend's husband had surgery to correct some sort of problem in his testicles...there was a vein that was causing a massive amount of heat and lowering his count. Strangest thing I've ever heard.

Weight can play a factor in fertility, but it usually has to be pretty extreme on either end (over or under). So can diet, stress, medications, smoking....there's all sorts of reasons.
