Cloth diapers- daycare wont use them!

Hi everyone,
I need some help! My 7 wk. old (and 2 yr. old) are starting an in-home
daycare in about 3 weeks when school starts and I have to go back to
work :( I talked to the lady yesterday and told her that we're
experimenting with cloth diapers (I got the pack from
jilliansdrawers. com) She doesn't want to use them, and said she used
them once in the past with a child and won't do it again. I didn't
delve much further into the conversation, but I guess I understand
where she's coming from if she hasn't used the new CD's! So here's
where I need help. A. Can she throw dirty diapers into a bag and let
them sit all day for me to take home-even the poopie ones- without
doing anything more to them? B. Do you think it's reasonable to ask
her to try them for one day? If they are just as easy to put on as a
disposable, and if she doesn't have to do anything more with them, then
it shouldn't be a big deal... right? THANKS!

as a infant/ toddler care provider i really want to put my 2 cents in. when i care for a child, it isn't about me, my preferences, likes wants or needs, it's the child's and the families. if a parent comes in with a child that they want to use cloth diapers on, (other than being required by my centers regulations) i would gladly accept it. and by some weird chance, if it became too much to handle through the day ( i do have 7 children ages 18 months to 3 in my room) i would ask the parents if there was something i might be able to do to make it eaiser for me, such as just wrapping them in 2 or more plastic bags to cut down on smell, or ask them to bring in a air tight container for me to put them in. i wish your care provider felt more to help you and your child have a great experience when it comes to the issue of diapers... best of luck to you. and no, you are not being unreasonable asking her to try it for one day.

I think that it's great that you want to use cloth diapers. I wish I had the motivation to use them.

You have every right to ask her to use them, for just a day. Even if i wasn't into using them, I would if a mom wanted me to, especially if it was just putting them in a bag for her to deal with later.

Ask if she's willing to do a trial run. Send your easiest diapers- velcro or snaps, no prefolds or pins. Give her a wet bag JUST for your children's diapers, and tell her all she has to do is stick the diaper in the bag and you will deal with it when you get home. I wonder if she'd be willing to work with you if she saw how much easier your diapers were to use than what she's thinking of.

yes, we use cloth nappies, and you can just stick them in nappy bags like disposables and you could collect them at the end of the day.

I think you should try and convince her as if she does this it's no more work for her really.

I cant blame her i would rather throw them away too! also If you found someone that you like and trust enough to leave your kids with, i wouldn't complain about this. I don't like cloth diapers either and I did try the new ones.

if the day care wont use (dont want to) the diapers you provide them they should provide them free of charge. are you reasons for using cloth other than cost related. it shouldnt matter to you if your not buying them.

I think its perfectly reasonable for you to ask her to give it a shot. If she won't its time to find a new daycare.

I think you should use cloth diapers at home and let the day care provider use what works for them.

as a former child care provider and a new mom who uses cloth diapers, i would have no problem with it - in fact when the baby i used to keep had a severe diaper rash - i used cloth diapers on him anyway - you may want to find another provider - it is NOT about HER wants - it is about the baby's and the parents -

yes, she would be able to put them in a bag for you - that would be considered the dry pail method, which to me is way easier anyway - there would be NO ADDITIONAL work for her - if she changes disposables all day - she does the same thing with cloth, just puts it in a bag, rather than toss out -

if she is still unwilling to do this, definitely find another childcare provider - cloth diapers are coming back pretty good here lately, so look into your local newspapers websites - ours here has a 'mommy forum' - post on there - and you should be able to find an accommodating sitter -

good luck and keep looking- you will find the right person, btw, where are you located?

I think that if she doesn't want to deal with them, she doesn't have to. And if you have a bunch of dirty diapers sitting in a bag all day long, YOU won't want to deal with them when you got home either. Just have your baby wear disposables while at daycare, and cloth while at home. Or offer to pay the daycare more for dealing with cloth diapers. Or find a new daycare.

It really doesn't matter what "we" think. The decision is ultimately up to her.
