Sore breasts

My son is 5 1/2 weeks old. I both breast and bottle feed him making sure to pump when bottle feeding. For the past week my breasts have been pretty sore and kind of throb if it's been a little while between feedings (like at night while sleeping). They are also a bit hard, but I don't feel any hard lumpy spots.

Could I be engorged? If so how so I help the pain?

I bottle feed when he gets too fussy to breastfeed, so please no rude comments. I feed my son and that is all that matters.

(bottle feeding is both breast milk and formula, whichever is most readily available when he's wailing for food).

I had very forcefull let downs and a ton of milk. It would choke my son when he was an infant there was soo much. I didnt really know what to do but just try to get him used to it, which he did eventually. It sounds like you may be engorged just pump out your milk, use some warm compressions to loosen up the ducts so you dont get an infection...you do not want an infection ouch they hurt. I didnt share meals though with formula so more of my milk was released, maybe you just need to pump more. If your breasts turn red and blochy and you get a fever you will need to go to the doctor.
