I mean it sounds like your making fun of a baby when you go dadabagooga. Why do people do this, I think it's stupid and immature and can only make a baby stupid? When I talk to a baby I talk in full sentences with real words.
My 2 yr old has to have oral motor speech therapy and his speech therapist said to not let anyone talk baby talk to him. It doesn't help any kid to hear words the wrong way, cute or not! Yet my MIL insists on trying to give him a pop-pop (pacifier) and ba-ba (bottle). My son NEVER had a pacifier and he's been off a bottle since he was 8 months old. My husband's brother (an adult) still calls my husband Bubba. So please people, higher pitches are fine, but at least say the word correctly. Your kid will thank you for it later.

I think it's wonderful that some people appreciate the innocent state of a baby by softening their voices in the form of "baby talk".
We respond very early to the tones of the voices we hear as well as negative vs. positive language. "Baby Talk" is a friendly, disarming sound to the ears of a very innocent life born into a very NON innocent world.
If you're around a baby as they're beginning to try and form words, you'll note that at first they will make singular sounds. Next they'll put two sounds or syllables together, and another and another. By baby talking or mocking THEIR sounds you are teaching them in a way their undeveloped brains can associate with and handle- a baby PHONICS system if you will.
It never helped any baby to have uber serious parents. Babies need/love to play and baby talking is playing with them with your voice.
I'd much rather live in a world of baby talkers than the volatile, sarcastic, cynics I see so much of these days.
People take themselves a little too seriously these days I think. Live a little and brush up on your baby dialect. Or at least don't be so critical of people who speak this language that you don't want to learn.

I talk to my son like that, he loves it, although he is 21 months, and is experimenting with different words and habits, he is still fairly gobbledy-****, he can say a lot of words clearly, and i can understand him, buts its fun, a baby likes to experiement, theres nothing wrong with saying things you don't understand to a baby they thrive on it

I can only speak for myself, but I do it only to soften my words, I am a big guy and babies are small and if I was a baby and seen this huge person putting their face up to mine and talking it can and has come off as threatening and causes the baby to cry.
Another thing, the baby only gets this treatment for a short period of time and since the world calls us all to grow up so fast, why not give the baby some time to be just that, a baby.... : )

People naturally talk that way because babies respond to higher pitch frequencies. My father in law talks baby talk to my daughter and it is really annoying. She is over a year now!
Using real words and talking a lot to a baby will make your babies smarter!

I agree with jbah416, and it's not cute (most of the time) and makes people look like idoits. Speaking to your child (even a infant) in actual words even if they can't talk back, builds their vocab and makes them smarter.

Babies like it when they are "imitated"...and aren't you special because you don't lower yourself to baby talk..you should feel proud..and I think you are stupid and immature for posting a question like this..how you like that?

Because they are trying to drive the child's overly exhausted parents crazy.
Just kidding. They are trying to capture the child's attention and babies respond to squeeky sounds.

well babies hear high pitched sounds better than regular talking so that explains some of it...the rest i have no idea
