Pregnancy & Parenting

My friends son is 7 yrs.and wets his pants all the time....

and I understand that accidents happen but the weird thing is he doesn't seem bothered by it. He doesn't do it at school, only at home. We'll just notice that his pants are soaked but he continues playing like nothing happened at all. Doctor says there is nothing physically wrong with him....anyone had this happened to them and what did you do about it?

to start....i'm assuming that he has no developmental delays.

be understanding. sometimes these accidents are due to stress. keep the stress level for him as low as possible and do not make an issue out of it. the fact that it only happens at home tells me that he is experiencing a great deal of stress that needs to be investigated.

occaisionally children of this age have a small bladder......but in this case i would not think this is the issue as there is no problem at school.

some questions to his parents either by yourself or if you are not comfortable, a children's aid or protective society is in order. act as an advocate for him, there is something wrong with this picture. i don't know all the facts, but i can say that a child only wetting at home doesn't sound right.

so glad to hear that another parent is concerned for a childs emotional, social and physical welfare. best wishes.

EDIT: i assume that there is an issue of sense of security but can't be sure as i do not know the child. stuttering can be brought on by stress. bring it to mum's attention.....and go from there. seems like you really care for this child, keep it up girl!

my husband peed his bed until he was 12.he also had very unstable family life.don't know if one had anything ti do with the other.also my friend growing up had same problem.both parents worked full time and children were left alone far too young.I remember a bed wetting alarm on her bed to wake her when she peed. She grew out of it at later age too.Iknow potty training my son it made no difference to stop giving water late at night.I really don't think dehydrating them is the answer.(he quite at about 2.)

My cousin used to do this too, at about the same age. He grew out of it by age 8-9. He'd pee in his pants, and it would not bother him that his pants were wet. Just be understanding and supportive. He'll grow out of it.

My Nephew use to be just like this. He grew out of it by the time he was 8 (it started when he was 6). He used to played alot on his computer and it mainly happened then because he really did not want to move.

i believe something is stressing him at home. I found that theres always a stressor involved or self esteem issue.

During School he may be bullied?

Or some other stress caused problem.

Try asking him calmly if he does it on purpose at home. Otherwise, I don't know whats going on.
