Why are so many people wrong about the war in Iraq

Troops risk their lives to make sure no harm comes to children and civilians yet I keep reading on here that we are committing genocide, that we are killing babies. That is the ultimate disrespect, being so deliberately un-informed, opinionated and wrong about everything and not even bothering to learn the truth.

SPC, no matter what you do some people always just want to assume the worst about others. Those people always seem to be angry and unhappy. It wouldn't matter if you showed them proof it was raining, they would still call you a liar.

Don't worry about these petty people. Do your best and concentrate on the mission.

Keep your chin up and your butt down - come back alive!!

Because, despite the pretense of considering themselves to be "educated and enlightened" people, they haven't done their homework. Few have ever read the public law which authorized military operations in Iraq. Instead they keep chanting the "WMD" mantra. Few have determined that 85% of Iraqi oil production has been under contract to Compagnie Petrol De Francais since shortly after the UN Peace Enforcement Mission of 1991, but they continue their chant of the "blood for oil" mantra.

Their ignorance and arrogance is made even more manifest in their view of President George Walker Bush. Since he has that Texas accent, the literati and cognescenti equate that with low intelligence. I am old enough to remember the same elitism directed at Lyndon Baines Johnson when he became President.

What ultimately revolts me is their assertion that their view represents the "people". What utter nonsense! Most of them wouldn't be caught dead in a Walmart, a NASCAR event or any other venue where the people gather.

Because they don't actually use their powers of reason.

Examples:

1) If we committing genocide, then we are doing it wrong. There would be no ROE.

2) If this were a war for oil, then the fuel we use would not cost so much. And, we would wage war with Canada and Mexico in a war for oil. They have more available oil, and they are much closer.

3) If this is Bush's war, then why didn't congress use their powers to return the troops?

They claim to be intelligent, yet they cannot figure out those 3 little things.

As a medic you may not kill people per se but you've got to admit that a lot of innocent Iraqis have lost their lives. It seems like many Americans, including military personnel, do not bother to learn the truth - whatever the truth really may be. Looking at your avatar I conclude that as of now you are in the position to do what you are told. Thinking is not required.

Perhaps as you progress you take on objective stand to anything that crosses your path. You are entitled to your opinion but apply some critical thinking before you speak. You are just repeating what you've heard elsewhere.

And I have never heard anybody say that the U.S. is committing genocide, except for those claiming they have been accused to do these things. But yes, children are killed over there, by Iraqis as well as Americans; I hope you don't deny that.

Maybe I was sleeping or drunk or something but I don't recall any credible source using the word genocide in connection with Iraq. We have committed some atrocities which have been reported in the media and they damned well ought to be. Not all warriors are saints and we can't hide from that fact. That's war.

So, can you get me squared away on the genocide thing? Who said it?

Come on...the morons saying the same crap in the 60's DID have children that they have instilled with the same lack of sensibilities. Even if they did not have children (Praise the Lord) they are still hanging out doing the same mindless crap.

There are NO young people in front of the USMC recruiting Office in Berkley. Most make me look young. They still dress like it is 1968 and smell like it too. Roll me another one just like the other one....do you have some patchouli?

Don't know where you live, but the SF Bay Area is still a freak show.

Two words...The Media. It is simply left wing propoganda. The funny thing is...as they try to claim the "moral high ground" by telling all of us the bad things President Bush has gotten us into...they do it all for ratings and money. We truly are not in Iraq for MONEY or OIL...but truly they are out there feeding the masses bad news stories to gain viewership and generate tons of MONEY. Buck up trooper...we are doing good things over there. Knowing you yourself have contributed to our nations cause is enough. I know too because...I was there also. Dont let it get you down.

There is no genocide being committed by US troops and its a shame that some sources are trying to spread that information. I did four years in a Marine infantry unit and a combat deployment to Afghanistan. Sorry it's not the cool war but its still a war that claims lives while no one notices. Media outlets will report on the stories that attract ratings and those happen to be of violence or mistakes of those who should not make mistakes. When was the last time you saw a front page article about how the troops are helping reconstructing efforts in Iraq? The spend more time doing that than getting hit with an IED but IED death is what you see in the news. Before placing all the blame on the evil media take a look in the mirror. You are the ones who slow down to look at the accident on the freeway. You are the ones who tune in to the stories about murder and how a single Marine tosses a dog off a cliff. While everyone will tell you that they want change not many people will be able to list the things that they have done to bring that change.

I've seen numerous posts where individuals bash the President, the military and the media. On numerous occasions these same people have referenced Fahrenheit 9/11, Loose Change and other conspiracy theory themed movies. The truth is that the traditional news outlets will put the same twist that these conspiracy theory movies do. If you just watch Michael Moore movies and treat them as the gospel then you're brainwashed by a different person and not the "free-thinking individual" that you consider yourself. While I may be getting into rambling territory I would like to remind everyone of all the freedoms they take for granted and to exercise them. Get your information from more than one source, compare the information and make your choice based on what you think is right and not what is spoon fed to you. The best way to honor those who have died defending your rights is not to bash those who speak negatively about the government but to be able to defend your point of view based on facts that you have researched. If you think that Bush is responsible for all of life's problems then ask a veteran about what is really going on. If you think that the person talking bad about Bush is unpatriotic then realize you are attempting to silence a right that men and women have died to defend. Realize all that you have given to you.

Actually we are committing genocide and killing a huge number of civilians for just the oil. But if there is a truth that we should learn please really tell me about it
