My husband brought home a very large (8") turtle yesterday. We've moved him from his orginal 20 gallon aquarium into an 80 gallon aquarium. We are not sure what kind of turtle he is, although it is possible that he might be a Snapping Turtle. Anyway, I need to know how to clean the tank. I don't have a filter for it yet, so I'm sure I will have to clean it out a lot more than normal. When cleaning his tank, do I need to put him in some dechlorinated water, or is tap water okay for the short time? When I clean the tank, do I have to remove ALL the gravel? Should I use cold or warm water to clean the tank? Is there any product I can use to dechlorinate the water in the tank? Yesterday I actually went out and bought 80 gallons of dechlorinated bottled water. Is it okay to use soap on the gravel? After handling my turtle, is there a risk of disease? He is a very messy turtle! Also, if it is okay to use a dechlorinater, how long do I have to wait before putting the turtle in it?
