Hi Jen, the best decor for any kind of fish tank is simple, inert objects that have no sharp or protruding edges as well as live plants. As you probably know, most of the items available at your local pet store are rubbish-all the sunken galleons, skulls & treasure chests etc can often pollute your water with toxic paints as well as damaging or even trapping fish because they are not very well made. Other simple but safe objects carefully cleaned [NOT using soap!!] like marbles, round pebbles, glass pebbles or even snooker/pool balls can look great sitting in the gravel in the right setting.
One of the best items for your fish tank is a glass tumbler or china mug on it's side-this provides a safe, cheap & very interesting cave/bedroom for your fish. I have always favoured live plants although Goldfish will chew or uproot most, one I have found particularly hardy is Vallis. If you have to use fake ones I would suggest silk rather than plastic because they are not likely to injure or trap passing fish.

Well goldfish will sample you live plants to death. Also be aware goldfish are rather dirty fellas so you need good filtration. As to what else in the tank you should have subtrate gravel etc. as that is a good haven for the beneficial bacteria that will break down waste. Material-wise any decorations that are made for aquariums are ok for goldfish. You can also use pvc pipe to make an inexpensive "cave". Good luck

If you keep goldfish try to minimise their tankmate and decorating item like rough rock or pebble in your tank such as to help to prevent your goldfish from injured as in some fancy goldfish like fantail,bubble-eye goldfish and pearl scale.
And also goldfish are an active fish and need a lot of swimming place so try not to overcrowded the tank with decorating items as well.
Hope my suggestion can help you to solve your problem. And by the way have a good time with your goldfish as I do

Goldfish will eat any live plant you place in your tank, so it is pretty pointless.
You want to make sure you have a VERY good filter! A top brand one, preferably one made for a tank a few sizes bigger. In our 40 gallon goldfish tank, we have a canister filter ment for a 75 gallon (canister filters are one of the best out there)

If you go to a pet shop you can get specially made things to put in fish tanks like castles, plants etc, and you know they will be safe as well as they are specially made for this, if you have any worries you could talk to a worker at the shop and they can tell you more.
Hope this helps xxxxx
