Can you even believe this

I just recieved a newsletter from the ASPCA, and I couldn't even believe it. The ASPCA is assisting in Tennessee's largest-ever puppy mill raid. There were about 700 dogs on the property and 200 puppies- all suffering from a lack of basic care. The dogs were found in feces-encrusted, unventilated pens with little or no food or water. Maladies such as matting, sores, broken limbs, hernias and abscesses are prevalent. Breeds found on the site run the gamut, from Pomeranians and Chihuahuas to German shepherds and Great Danes. Is that horrible or what?!?!?

Here's the rest of the article:

Of course it's horrible smilies/sad.gif....poor dogs. At least they got caught. Hopefully a good portion of the dogs can be rehabilitated and re-homed....but unfortunately many dogs who live their lives in cages with no socialization like that, have a very hard time adjusting to life in a home.

There was a large scale puppymill raid in Kansas City a couple years ago, involving the breed I own, Basenjis. Most of the dogs were placed in homes but many of them still have health and behavior issues today. I own a female who was in a puppymill the first year and a half of her life- and while she's adjusted much better than some mill dogs, she's still got her quirks.

It seems we're hearing of more and more of these puppymill raids, and the horrible conditions these poor dogs are being kept in. It makes me happy whenever I hear of one of these places being shut down....BUT I wonder, for every puppymill they shut down....HOW MANY MORE are out there under the radar, keeping dogs in filthy conditions and not getting caught?

I think the commercial pet store industry needs to go the way of the "fashion fur" industry. The market for fur has sharply declined in the last 20 years and I bet it put a good percentage of fur farmers out of business. The market for pet store puppies needs to DISAPPEAR the same way! Thanks to educational efforts and recent publicity (Oprah's puppymill show!) it is becoming increasingly un-PC to buy a pet store puppy. With any luck, one day buying a pet store pup will carry the same stigma as buying a big fur coat. smilies/smiley.gif

That just makes me sick. I was watching the news last night and they found puppies and dogs dumped on the side of the highway in 2 different counties in my state, nc. They were suspected of being from a puppy mill, with the dogs having rotten teeth, sores and matts. It showed them at the humane society all cleaned up. They were adorable little dogs, all jumping around, happy at being rescued, I'm sure.

Glad to see another one biting the dust. Its as bad as when they raided the one in Buxton Maine last october. The owners had the nerve to go to court and try to get some of their 200+ animals back. Most of them and the 175 taken from another mill in the same month have found permanent or foster homes.

Its absolutely sickening to see the conditions in which they lived and were allowed to continue in physically with various illness and health issues.

~ I just received that email this morning. What a shame, but at least something has happened now.

I wish people that wanted to save puppies from puppy stores would look at this and realize what harm they are doing to these dogs in these situations. It just breaks my heart that anyone could see animals as food on their table and money in their bank while the animals suffer right in front of them.

The only good way to stop this is to adopt, adopt, adopt!

People are horrible and you are right about that!

It's an epidemic that is only going to get worse with the economy.. If you have a my-space, go to my page

www.myspace.com/neomaxiezoomedweebe.

We are loosing this war to save animals. There are days where I just want to say screw this ****, But I can't, that would mean more dogs and cats are for sure going to die.

There are groups all over the place(animal rescues

Join me and my friends and maybe we will be able to save more livessmilies/smiley.gif

Terrible, just awful, the people responsible should be put in a pen, in the sun, no water or food the way they did the animals so he/she/they can see just how awful it is. Animals are here to be our companions, and depend on us to care for them and love them. How could anyone be so cruel!

Unfortunately yes, I believe it.

Where do you think all those "cute adorable" puppies in the pet stores come from?

When they're not "cute & adorable" anymore they wind up in shelters and the luck ones get adopted and the not-so-lucky...well...

Yeah, I saw that on the news yesterday and today.

(They're covering it more here b/c I live in TN)

Whereever it was I had never heard the name of the city, It's supposedly south of Nashville. It's deffinatly a very remote place, I'm guessing thats why they are just now finding it.

Yeah, I just read that when I checked my email as well. That is very awful, but I'm so glad they saved the animals and hopefully they can find good homes to them all. I can't believe people would actually do this to animals.

I can't believe someone would do something like that to innocent animals. It shouldn't be allowed or tolerated at all. Very sad.

That is awful. I absolutely hate all puppy mills. Even in what is considered good conditions they are bad. Hopefully there are alot of people who will be able to adopt these poor babies. I wish I could!
