It does seem a little bizarre to refer to them as 'poor.' I'm certainly no economist, but this 'credit crunch' does strike me as inevitable judging by the way 'we' have been encouraged to borrow, spend and consume often way beyond our means.

So, yep! belts need to be tightened, this is the nature of globalised economy, not bust, but squeezed...and I would still prefer to be in the position of a typical middle class professional, than someone waiting for the next JSA payment or scanning the jobs board for a factory job!

And of course, I would hate to be an indentured slave like the poor professional footballers!

Perhaps you should consider that the mass media are simply making the story up. During HER reign, a great many people suffered fantastic 'real' hardship, while the papers and the TV were filled with stories of how great the economy was doing. Now, there is far less hardship and the mass media are filled with stories of impending doom. However, Have you ever noticed, it's always "about" to happen, but never actually does. I think this is simply the mass media deciding who's going to run the country next time. The mass media has always supported the tories. Well, nearly always. I am amused endlessly, that an Australian, living in the US, should decide who exercises political power in the UK.

because they have convinced themselves they are middle class when in fact they are still working class, whilst the economy has been booming they have been misled into believing that they have become middle class by having status symbols that there predesesors could never afford, but they have forgotten the old adage that the rich also become richer so the gap is still there between upper middle and working class ,

they will have plenty of high value items in there home ie , tv , computers , cars , etc but have no real monetary wealth , if you have to go to work to earn your income then you are working class !!!!!!!!

Well..its like this.

Middle class worker earns £30,000 a year and then gets taxed to hilt on it.

The tax is then GIVEN to a chav who thinks their sole purpose in life is to churn out kids.

The middle class worker takes home around £20,000 after tax , the chav is GIVEN £30,000 tax free.

That's why middle class workers are so poor.

Well define middle class? If someone is making good money for the area they live in and are having money issues then they are fools and should not receive help. They need to stop spending money. In other words yes they live beyond their means. The only thing they need is to take some classes in money management.

Long story short.....

Middle class always, paid all bills worked always.now retired and on a pension from my "UNION JOB" and we live on

25,000 a year, which was fine 20 years ago. So to answer your question....NO we didn't live beyond means. OUR UNION should be paying us cost of living increases but they have got around it and now we suffer for it.Thank goodness we were never in debt or we would be out of luck.......
