Can I vent my portable air conditioner up the fireplace chimney

I can get my exhaust hose to fit over the flue, but I am curious if it is safe or will it create a hazardous condition in the chimney which would make it catch fire in the winter when I burn wood? (of course I would take the hose out for the winter). The air conditioner has a drip pan to catch the moisture, so I don't think it's the kind that exhausts moist air. Right now I am venting through a window and that works fine, but I want to move the unit to a different place in the room which is not near a window but is close to the fireplace. I live in an apartment, so I can't cut a hole in the wall or anything like that to install a vent.

It's not a very good idea ! first of all it's not safe, then the humidity and the soot will create an awful smell all through the apartment . Leave the unit where it is .

The only way would be for you to buy a floor unit

I doubt it. The backside of your portable air-conditioner requires a continuous supply of fresh air in order to remove the heat that is generated when it is running. If your chimney has that air circulation, then it might work, otherwise, no. I had a friend once who mounted a portable air-conditioner on a wall between the cooled room and a closet. Needless to say, the closet got very hot and the air-conditioner failed. Just keep in mind that the hot side needs some positive ventilation.

If there is moisture forming in the hose or chimey pipe it will cause rust sooner but if not should be ok.
