Bless your heart Viki N! I know exactly how miserable that can be. I'll tell you some things to try that have also worked for me. I hope they help! First of all, don't use your bed for anything other than sleep and (this may not apply to you, but just in case) sex. Don't study or watch T.V. while in bed. This way your body and mind will associate your bed with sleep alone. Make sure before you get in bed you are both mentally and physically tired. Make sure that you stop drinking caffinated beverages or stimulating medications several hours prior to bedtime. Its also a good idea to create a bedtime routine. For example, try taking a hot bath with some kind of aroma therapy that is specific to relaxation. Lavendar is commonly used as well as vanilla. I use Johnson & Johnson's baby bedtime bath. Bed Bath and Beyond have some good one's too. As you are doing this keep telling yourself how tired you are and how good it will feel to rest. Have you heard of positive self talk? I start while I am soaking in the bath by telling myself everything positive I can think of. Basically just remind yourself that everything is fine and do not allow yourself to think of anything negative or puzzling. I also have tried to visualize myself being totally relaxed as if I was on a beach resting in the breeze feeling the cool ocean spray on my face. When you get out you can apply some lotion that also has a calming smell. Start at your feet and work your way up. As you do this, visualize each part of your body relaxing. I say to myself when I start on my feet, "I am so relaxed. I can feel my toes relaxing, and my feet relaxing. I am breathing in everything good and breating out all things bad. My feet are now totally relaxed." Continue doing this with each body part. Its important to concentrate totally on this and nothing else. Then when you get in the bed, make sure that the room is totally dark and noise free. It also helps if your room is nice and cool. When you lie down, tell yourself to think of total nothingness. If a thought enters your mind throw it out at once. Think of peace and serenity. If you lay there for more than 30mins without falling asleep, get up. Try reading or doing some light exercise (like walking up and down a flight of stairs.) Then try it again. I know this sounds like alot to do, but the mind is a powerful thing. The key is to not let those stressing thoughts take over. Remember you are more powerful than they are. Those thoughts have to leave you alone if you tell them to.

You need to use your will power,

Get up early in the morning, 6 or 7 am.You can not sleep in the day :

You will go early in the evening soon...Keep the discipline, You will do.Keep on getting up at 6 am or 7 am. If You do for 6 months You will do fine, You will feel fine and it is good for your health.

After 2 week getting up at 6 am and sleeping nothing at all during the day, You will wish to go to bed soon and You will sleep fine.Sure.

Get up early!Do not sleep during the day...

Have you thought about downloading some guided relaxations from iTunes onto your iPod & listen to them when you want to go off to sleep? I find they really help me focus on something other than my thoughts, & it slows & quietens my mind. Before I know it ... *bam* I'm waking up in the morning.

I have one guided relaxtion recording, & I've never heard the end of the recording, cos I always fall asleep! Its got the sound of ocean waves in the background, which I like a lot.

If you go to iTunes, go to Podcasts, & click on 'Search', & in the description field type 'meditation' or 'relaxation' or 'sleep'. Podcasts are free AND non-addictive!!!

Or you can always go to a cd store & look for a cd that will do the same thing (or Amazon.com) ... look online for people's reviews of what they found helped them. Try the links below ...

Do what I do.

Think in pictures.

It isn't really that easy but trying is fun and puts me to sleep within about 15 mins at a max.

Close your eyes, and don't think in words. Just use pictures. Pretty soon you lose control over it and then you are asleep, as long as you don't freak out. Sometimes it ends up in zombies for me, so I just stop take like 5 and try again.

No chemicals, no warm milk, no pills, nothing but your mind.

Force yourself to get up at like 7am every day, no matter how late u stay up eventually your body clock will adjust to a settled sleeping pattern, and you will naturally fall asleep. I had the same thing, stressing about not falling asleep keeps you awake.

Lavender bags are great to put under your pillow, or burning the inscent stick.

Listening to relaxing music can also help you to sleep.

You might also try looking at your diet as that can affect your sleep.

Get up and go to another room. Read a book, then you will gradually get tired. Then, quietly go back to the bedroom....then, imagine you are on a sandy beach being massaged then..........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

try to convince yourself that worrying/thinking is a waste of time at that moment. Tell yourself you'll think about it tomorrow when it will have more meaning.

You have to train your mind by altering your thought process, learning how to postpone your thoughts will enable you to shut down and fall asleep.

This is how it works:

Choose a set time and place, it should be the same every day (e.g. In the living room from 17:00 to 18:00) making sure it's early enough that it won’t make you anxious right before bedtime, this is your 'thinking period' where you’re allowed to worry/stress about whatever’s been on your mind.

When anxious thoughts or worries pop into your head during the day, keep a list and postpone them to your 'thinking period', keep reminding yourself that you’ll think about them later so there’s no need to get stressed right now and continue to go about your day.

During your 'thinking period' reflect on the thoughts you wrote down that day, are these thoughts still bothering you? You may find some of them no longer matter, but for any that do, allow yourself this time to process them, but only for the amount of time you’ve specified for your 'thinking period'.

Altering your thought process breaks the habit of dwelling in the present moment and as you develop the ability to postpone your thoughts, you'll start to feel more in control of your mind.
