Give them a paper bag to breathe in and out of, it helps to give them more oxygen. Tell them to take deep slow breaths in and out and generally tell them that it will pass soon. Try and take their mind off of it once they are calming down,, if it persists, maybe they could get some anti-anxiety meds from the doctor...

Firstly, you must not crowd someone who is having a panic attack, this will only make them worse. The best way to help them calm down is to get them to breathe into a paper bag, as this stops them getting too much oxygen and passing out. don't try to hold them down or force the bag on their face as this will also make them panic more. speak calmy to them and let them know that its ok. Sometimes breathing with them, like taking big, deep slow breaths can also encourage the sufferer to calm down too. if you are at all concerned, take them to doctor/hospital or something like that.

Get them to do slow, deep, breathing, it will help to calm and bring them out of it, breathe in through the nose for 6 seconds, hold for 5, breathe out slowly through the mouth. Also, untense and relax the face, especially the jaw, shoulders and hands, its not done intentionally but we tense our bodies up when we are anxious or under stress and having a panic attack sets off a chain reaction through the body which is quite frightening, i used to have them a lot.

my girlfriend suffers one every now and again, i find that holding her and gently getting her out of the areas and somewhere safe works wonders. It can be difficult and sometimes she fights back. If someone you know suffers a panic attack do the following:

dont panic yourself

move them to a quite place and sit down

talk quietly

re-asure them everything is ok

when they recover advise to see a gp there may be a reason its happening

hope it helps.

i suffered from panic attacs for many years, before docs even had a name for it, & i went to many docs,so i had to controll them myself, not been able to leave the house or enjoy myself without fear of them was not an option i would accept, now you may be shocked by how i started to controll them, anyway ,i found by accident that if i hurt myself it would break the attack which proved to me that the panic attacks where all in the mind,so when i found one comming on ,i would rap my knuckles hard enough to hurt & that would breake the attack, later i found that sex would breake the attack ,so i deducked from this if you can concentrate your mind on somthing pleasent or hurtfull that you could breack the attack ,these things made me realy belive that i was not going to die or faint , that panic can be connrtoled, as time went by i found other ways of breacking it .now if i feel one comming on i just say to myself its all in the mind &its gone ,by the way you can now get tablets to help , but at the end of the day you will begin to realise that you have to belive that you are in controll ,goodluck there are a terrible frighting thing whil they have a grip of you.

Calmly talk to them. It is a difficult thing for them to go through.Sometimes if you let them know you are just their for them helps.Let them know that they are going to be okay, and that it is going to pass.

try to concentrate on your breathing, take slow and deep breathes, if they continue go see your GP, they can give you medication to help you to calm down, good luck

Breathing! Also focus the mind. Don't fight it, accept it and let it pass though.
