Hypothyroidism

I have this condition and most if not all the symptoms.. I started taking 50mcg of synthroid 2 months ago, and i noticed the effects are wearing off. I felt great at first now i feel sluggish again and moody and my symptoms are coming back. Does this mean i may need more? My doc has me scheduled for another blood test in august.

Summary List of Symptoms1

In general, the symptoms of hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) are:

Weight gain Puffy face

Loss or thinning of eyebrows Cold intolerance

Low sex drive Depression

Abdominal bloating Cold hands or feet

Dry or thinning hair Joint or muscle pain

Thickening of the skin Thin, brittle fingernails

Early Symptoms

Many people attribute the early symptoms of hypothyroidism to stress or aging. They begin to feel chronically tired and overly sensitive to cold; muscle and joint aches often develop; modest weight gain is common even though appetite diminishes; constipation is often a problem.2 Premenopausal women may experience heavy periods. 2

As your thyroid hormone levels fall over the following months, the skin becomes rough and dry, hair coarsens, and mental activity—including concentration and memory—may become slightly impaired.2

Depression can develop, and some experts believe that even mild thyroid failure can lead to major depression.3,4

The blood test will help the doc to make that determination. Try to follow his/her orders, and try to research and learn about it as much as you can, see what others with the same disease have to say about it and what coping mechanism they use. Good luck and God bless.

You're already overdue for blood tests. Don't wait until August. You need blood tests every 6 weeks until you have stable test results, and you are symptom free. Then you can cut back on the frequency of your testing gradually, down to every 6 months or so.
