My grandfather is planning a suprise birthday party for my grandmother, can you help me plan the menu

Do you have any suggestions or websites? We are trying to keep the menu simple with finger foods. This is the menu he came up with, but I dont know about it.

finger sandwhiches
Teryaki and sweet and sour meatballs
fried and baked wings
ham
turkey
vegetable and fruit tray
potato salad
watermelon
cantaloupe
honey dew melon

Oh yeah the party is going to be indoors.

That sounds like plenty of food! But, if you're going to have platters of ham & turkey, you might also want some cheese; and don't forget rolls & condiments (mustard, mayo) .....and, a cookie platter and a cakesmilies/smiley.gif ....Just a suggestion for the fruit: Hollow out 1/2 watermelon and refill it with cubed melons, berries & pineapple......

Sounds like a great assortment! It is always a good idea to serve favorite foods of the guest of honor. I think it would also be fun to serve foods that she enjoyed as a child or that her & your grandfather enjoyed when they first met. Like for instance if they used to go to the drive in then serve hotdogs, hamburgers, fries & shakes, popcorn, etc. My favorite place to find recipes is food network since you can search by ingredient, easy or difficult, chef, etc.

Ummmmm.......... what are some of your grandma's food? If that's her favorite food you should ask your grandpa to make the food for her.But without letting her know!!!!! =) i was thinking in your grandpa's menu there wasn't a drink. maybe your grandma could get whine and kids get soda. gl n hf at your party!!!!!! ='smilies/wink.gif

I don't like to see more than one "tray" at a party myself....it is very informal, which is great at graduation parties...light eating-type affairs. I would do a nice fruit tray, but maybe dress it up with some chocolate fondue served alongside and some skewers for people to make their own desert? Serve bowls of coconut, crushed nuts, etc. to dip the chocolate fruit in? Sandwiches are great, but most of the items are cold....so maybe consider a hot sandwich? If it is outdoors, never mind then because you will want cooler foods, but my family likes things like pulled pork in the crockpot or bbq pork in the crockpot for a small hot sammie. Veggie trays are a great option instead of salads and potato salad is great. Will there be a cake? I suggest something a little nicer like lemon bars or something light. I am making this recipe for this Saturday night....we are having a party with about 15-20 people (husband's work) and I thought they looked good. Have fun!
