Need a straight, honest answer, as there seems to be much confusion of this!

you can mot it without tax but you can't tax without mot, pre book it at a mot station so you'll be covered driving it there with no mot, yes your spot on with disablement taxation about going to a dvlc centre to change the taxation class of the vehicle, l have to do this but at the other end of the spectrum, as l'm disabled. and have to change the vehicle to disablement class. did the previous owner retain his tax disc, if not you will need to surrender the disc at the dvlc centre when you tax the vehicle, report abuse

You can change the taxation class without an MOT. You are allowed to drive a car without tax to an MOT test providing you have boked a test and have proof of the booking with you in case you are stopped. You are only allowed to drive to the test station and back. No other driving is allowed. report abuse

You should be fine, keep a copy of the garages number and a receipt of the booking with you when you drive over. Present these to the officer if you are stopped and it should be fine. They may ask you to produce at the station with in a set time a copy of the MOT for proof. report abuse

As long as the car is booked in for the MOT it is road legal, but only to and from the test centre. Make sure you have proof if stopped (appointment letter or test centre phone number so police can confirm). report abuse

Boris is correct, you may drive it untaxed to the testing centre for the purposes of a PRE-BOOKED MoT - for precisely the sort of reason you give. report abuse
