My lease is up at the end of the month

and my apartment manager hasn't said anything about it like asking if i am going to stay or move. is it his job to get a hold of me or should i just go month to month until they say something? can they throw me out if i stay after my lease is up if i'm not signed into a new one?

Read your lease and if it does not specify what will happen then you should contact the landlord right away and ask if he is planning to renew your lease. If it does not specify and you have not signed a new lease then the current one automatically goes to month to month at the same rental amount you are now paying. Nothing changes except the duration of the lease. The landlord or you can cancel the lease at any time by giving 30 days written notice.

Most landlord's want to keep good tenants and will give plenty of notice to bad ones that their lease is not being renewed.

May be he is expecting you to request him for a renewal of the lease or he is too busy. You may ask him for a renewal. I suppose there is a clause in the existing lease agreement for renewal. In case if you are not sure if you would continue for a definite period, remaining here and paying the rent on monthly basis, subject to the terms to be mutually agreed by your landlord. But, I wonder whether he will agree for an arrangement even if it is for a temporary period, where there is no arrangement.

Really depends on what your rental contract says...sometimes they state you will move at the end of the contract unless you sign a new lease before your old one expires (usually you have to notify them your last month which would be now for you - so this means you have to take the initiative) but sometimes they state you will be allowed to rent month - month but at a higher rate when your current lease expires unless you sign another long-term lease for 12 months or so...so I would take the initiative if I were you to make sure you don't get charged an arm & a leg if you go month-month or worst case scenario, they might be counting on someone else to rent your Apt. b/c they assume you are not going to renew your lease and move out...
