Just the basics ....

I/We hereby give notice of our intent to vacate the premises at __address_City /State/Zip Code_________ on Aug.1,2008 .....

Our forwarding address will be :" _____________"

Thank You,

name

You need to give the forewarding address so the landlord will know where to return your security deposit .as he usually has 30 days from the date that you vacate to return it ...

Give him the date you will be moving and turning over the keys. Also request a date and time that you can get together with the landlord for a walk through to verify the condition you are turning it over in. give the new address where your security deposit refund can be mailed.

I would just tell him what he needs to know. I would tell him when you will be moving, the day in which you will have the house/apartment cleaned and keys returned and a forwarding address to send the deposit back, if any. Don't give him any information he doesn't need.
