The idea of Art critics are wrong (Tate Mordern)

I went to the tate mordern and saw a peice called pink door.it was a plain white background with a perfectly striaght door outline in pink.that was it.i dont understand how that was great but some people there were talking about the emotions that it invokes and how much diferent feelings there were bursting off the peice.i just saw a pink door.and i felt like something was wrong with me for not feeling anything.i felt like these people were just making it up or looking into things that wernt there.but then my friend said art is all about personal feelings and how you interpret something.which is completely true i dont have to feel anything and i dont know that they were making it up its all personal.so if thats true why are there art critics.still art (pictures, sculptures)is more personal than other art such as film.so why are there art critics.art is about personal feelings what might be very personal to you might not be to others.i believe that the idear of a art critic is wrong.

I've had similar thoughts about such art. People can persuade themselves of anything. We see this in religion, politics and art.

It reminds me of the 'The Emperor's New Clothes' and the swindling tailors, who said they were creating clothes so great, only wise people or people loyal to the king could see. And since no one could see they pretended to see the beauty of the clothes because they wanted other people to think they were smart. It took a small child to yell out, 'but he isn't wearing anything!'

You should have done the same thing, 'but it's just a pink door!'

In Canada the government bought a painting for one of its offices, that was all red with a blue line down one side for over a million dollars!

Artists that paint pink doors or blue lines are just swindlers.

ok... i stopped at pink door. you should add more paragraphs to your question and not have a really long thing...

And, now that I'm on my new paragraph, haven't you ever heard of constructive criticism. I mean I gave you some when I said your paragraph was monstrously ginourmous.

Anyway, this is my third paragraph and this answer looks way better than the question, which is why constructive criticism is a GOOD thing.

I agree with you. To me, art is something that takes skill. Conceptual art (things like the pink door) are imagination without skill.
