The measurement of a lens in mm is a measurement. The angle of view of a wide angle lens has to do with the format fo the sensor or film. report abuse

If you want 19mm, you need to put a 12mm on your DSLR. report abuse

Just to add to Ace's answer, which is excellent, don't think that you must buy a "digital" lens for your camera. As long as it is a current EF or EF-S Canon lens, you can use a so-called "full format" or "film" lens, also. You can't put a digital lens on a full format or film camera, but you can go the other way. For this reason and looking towards possible future purchases, I am more inclined to buy "non-digital" lenses from now on. report abuse

igital" lenses just mean that they are designed to cover the smaller sensor found on most DSLR's The lenses them selves capture analog light. Canon "digital" lenses are called EF-S, Nikon's DX.
