An art class question....

ok so if my friend asks me to show him one or two of the pictures i've drawn for a past project, so he can copy only the position and contact of the people drawn but change how the people look...will that mean that i'm letting him copy my work, and he's *stealing* it by just copying that...idk.....yes, no, maybe so...explain. ThanX

I think that you are going to be very generous by letting him reproduce your work. By definition, he is not "stealing" from you because you are granting him permission to do so. I would take it as a sort of compliment, really. This means he thinks your work is good...and what is wrong with that?

No. This is a good example of why what the "grown-ups" are saying about IP is 100% WRONG. If he's doing this for a class, child, and he's not supposed to copy, there is NO WAY he can hide that. Usually you tend to draw a certain way when you copy. If he is only copying the positions or using your pictures for reference THIS IS LEGITIMATE RESEARCH.

Richard Stallman of the Free Software Foundation wrote a polemic your question sounds uncomfortably close to. If he's your friend, help him out. This is research, not theft.

It's not totally copying. It's not stealing if you let him do it. But the question is, why does he need to copy this much. If he plans on doing art in the future, will he need you around so he can get ideas??? It may be he really doesn't need your help but just enjoys manipulating you!

You had to ask the question? Why do you doubt your own ethics?

I can't tell you what you believe, but I am concerned that you do not feel able to stand up for what you believe when someone asks you to do otherwise.
