*****My best guess that the name started as "Castillo," a Spanish name, and for some reason or another, the "y" got added to it. It could have been in translation by a government official, or a number of other reasons.



Why don't you go to ancestry.com and go to the "community" tab, From there go to a group with the Castillo surname and ask the question. Maybe somebody with the surname of Castillo can help you. Perhaps somebody else from the Philippines is on the list and knows the answer.

The origin of the name Castilloy, not it's 'genealogy', would certainly seem to be Spanish and it obviously has its root in castillo : castle. or Castilla : the region or place.
