What is a good book concerning writing and publishing a fiction book

I'm working on a fiction book and have been looking for tips on improving the quality of the writing and recommendations on publishing companies to which to send it.

Writers Market is a good book for finding publishing companies based on what exactly they are looking for, genre, length, age group and such, and how they accept the manuscripts.

What you should do is find an agent (also in Writers Market) and if you find one that thinks your story has what they are looking for, they will tell you what they want you to change and what you should do BEFORE you send it to the publishers. Most publishers won't accept a book from a person without an agent.
