I need to know the author-name of this book. I read it in my middle school as a required reading and loved it.-E-Answer.Net

It has a girl who's mother died and the council of the city decides to teach her how to dye clothes professionally. She is then assigned a housing with others like herself and she encounters a woodworker that she likes. She then has to repair a special robe for a ceremony that is held annually and features a song that last a whole day, I think. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
